Granny Smiths as far as the eye can see 

The Frulana Demeter organic farm nestles in Udine in the north east of Italy. Only 20 km from the sea and 20 km from the mountains, here 50,000 Granny Smith trees are grown, (as well as 8,000 Idared trees used for pollination and 10,000 of the new variety Crimson Snow) on warm stony soil, the ideal microclimate for tree growth. Harvesting only takes place when the apples are ready to eat. These first-class apples have a Brix value of 1–2 degrees over the norm.

Der Demeter-Hof Frulana liegt in der Provinz Udine im Nordosten Italiens. Nur 20 km vom Meer entfernt – und 20 von den Bergen – finden hier 50.000 Granny Smith Apfelbäume, 8.000 der Sorte Idared für die Befruchtung sowie 10.000 der neuen Sorte Crimson Snow auf den warmen, steinigen Böden ein ideales Mikroklima für eine optimale Entwicklung. Geerntet werden ausschließlich essreife Früchte. Der Brix-Wert der erstklassigen Bio-Äpfel liegt 1–2° über dem Standart.

On 17.5 hectares of land, the firm’s founder, Leonhard Lösch, manages the orchards according to the latest technical and organic methods. The on-site solar plant provides power both for the harvesting equipment as well as the remote controlled irrigation system. Sustainable management according to strict organic principles and the use of renewable energy makes Azienda Agricola Frulana one of the most visited farms.

Auf 17,5 ha Land betreibt der Firmengründer Leonhard Lösch biodynamischen Obstbau nach den aktuellsten technischen und ökologischen Erkenntnissen. Die hofeigene Photovoltaik Anlage liefert den Strom für elektrische Erntemaschinen und die sensorengesteuerte Bewässerungsanlage. Nachhaltige Bewirtschaftung nach strengen bioorganischen Richtlinien und der konsequente Einsatz erneuerbarer Energien machen die Azienda Agricola Frulana zu einem viel besuchten Musterhof.

Leonhard Lösch, who has been active in the fruit and vegetable sector for over 30 years, started in 2010 with sowing organic herbs to improve the soil conditions. Meanwhile the entire site is protected using fine-meshed nets, from the blossom through to harvesting. On the Frulana Demeter-farm ladybirds and other insects contribute actively to the production of crisp and healthy fruit, which are not genetically modified and which are free of pesticides.

 2010 hat Leonhard Lösch, seit 30 Jahren im Obst- und Gemüsesektor tätig, hier mit der Aussaat von Kräutern zur Bodenverbesserung nach biologischen Kriterien begonnen. Mittlerweile ist die gesamte Anlage durch feinmaschige Netze geschützt, von der Blüte bis zur Ernte. Marienkäfer und weitere Nützlinge helfen tatkräftig mit, auf dem Demeter-Hof Frulana knackige und gesunde Früchte frei von Gentechnik und Pestiziden zu produzieren.
